Military fort on Yellowstone River in Montana. Fort Keogh was established in July 1876 near present-day Miles City, Mont. Col. Nelson A. Miles oversaw the construction. The fort served as a base for patrolling operations and campaigns against the Sioux and Cheyenne tribes.
